Biography

As a protege of her illustrious father, Dale Serrano, Sr., Dalana began to develop her extraordinary teaching and leadership skills at an early age. While earning her BFA in dance from the University of Alabama, she helped propel the U of A Dance Team to national prominence as a coach/choreographer as well as for the Canadian Football League's cheerleader/ dance teams before forming Encore Competition Dance in 2003, now Encore Performance Company, LLC (ranked by National Dance Magazine as the #1 Competitive Dance Company in Alabama and one of North America’s “Top 50 studios on the Move” by Dance Spirit magazine).

Whether shaping young dancers or refining the most talented and experienced, Dalana provides students with the technical foundation needed to excel at the highest competitive levels. Dalana and her talented Encore educators give students a well-rounded performance education readying them for challenges from the intimate Encore recital, to professional dance careers.

Class Resources & Policies

Class Resources

Students,

Technique classes are for those committed to refining their technique. Goal setting is necessary…aim high! Consider a correction a compliment. Receiving a correction means the instructor is noticing your efforts and desire to improve. It means we believe in you!  Everyone should leave class with corrections each week. If you are not given things to practice on at home please ask the instructor at the end of class, “What do I need to work on”? Every student should keep a journal and pencil in their dance bag to write down any corrections, homework, and personal goals. If you get in a good habit of making checklists for yourself after each class, during water breaks, etc. AND revisit your notes at home, you will get even more out of your next dance class and will enjoy dance even more! For optimal results, practice first what doesn’t come easy for you so it can one day come naturally.

Parents,

Please email me if you know your child is going to be absent for class. Attending class regularly is necessary for your child’s growth as a dancer. In addition, they will be more confident in class and on stage by keeping regular attendance. We will perform a jazz number in this year’s Showcase at the BJCC. Our showcase recital is optional, but I must know as soon as possible if your child is NOT planning on participating. I consider it an honor to teach children and want every student to have the best leaning experience possible. Please feel free to email me anytime with questions or concerns. Additional information can be found on our website: ECdance.com.
