Katie Lindsay has been dancing since the age of three. She received the bulk of her early training at Kohl Academy of Performing Arts (KAPA) in Guntersville, Alabama, where she studied ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and pointe, and competed with the Dance Extensions company for five years, serving as co-captain for two. She worked as a substitute and assistant instructor at KAPA and completed the studio's Teacher Training Program in 2011. Katie also grew up performing in musical theatre, appearing in nearly twenty theatrical productions, an early passion that continues to inform her work as a musical theatre dance instructor today.

 

Katie moved to Florence, Alabama in 2012 to attend the University of North Alabama, earning her Bachelor of Arts in English in 2016 and her Master of Arts in American Literature in 2019. During this time, she worked as a choreographer and instructor at numerous children's camps across Alabama, as well as at Camp Walden in Denmark, Maine. She has also choreographed for several children's musicals, including Peter Pan, Jr., How to Eat Like a Child, and Cool Suit. 

 

In 2015, Katie began a five-year career at Allegro Dance & Fitness where she served as an instructor of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and acro for ages three to fifteen, and competition choreographer for tap, jazz, and lyrical numbers. In 2017, she started work at Florence City Schools as a middle school dance instructor. Here, she developed a comprehensive curriculum in ballet, modern, and jazz dance styles specifically for fifth through eighth grade students.

 

After moving to the Birmingham area in 2020, she joined Dance Levels, a nonprofit studio in Pinson, Alabama, where she served as an instructor and assistant director and helped lead students to their first dance competition.

 

Katie joined Encore Performance Company in the spring of 2022, where she has spent the past four years teaching a variety of genres, with a focus on tap and musical theatre. Outside the studio, she works as a social media and influencer specialist for Tidal Wave Auto Spa. Katie is grateful for the opportunity to share her love of dance and musical theatre with her students at Encore, and looks forward to many more years of watching them grow.
